Repair a chip or replace the windshield
Repairing stone chips
Minor stone chips can often be repaired instead of replacing the entire windshield. For the damage to be repairable, the stone chip must be no larger than 3 cm, must be located at least 5 cm from the edge of the windshield, and must be outside the camera’s field of view.
We repair up to three stone chips at a time, and the repair itself usually takes about 30 minutes.
Replacing the windshield
If the damage is too extensive to be repaired, the windshield must be replaced. This applies, for example, to large cracks, damage near the edge of the windshield, or stone chips in the driver’s field of vision.
When replacing a windshield, we use the proper methods and materials to ensure that the car is restored to safe condition.

Which stone chips can be repaired?
Most stone chips can be repaired, but not if they are too large, too close to the edge of the windshield, or have caused cracks. Our technicians always inspect your windshield to determine whether a repair is possible.
We can repair 1–3 stone chips that are:
- Up to 5 cm in size
- At least 3 cm from the edge of the window
- Not sitting in front of the camera
How long does it take to replace a windshield?
Replacing a windshield usually takes one business day, provided we have the correct information about the car model and any special features in advance. If you drop off your car in the morning, you can usually pick it up later that same day.
How much does it cost to repair or replace a windshield?
If your auto insurance includes glass coverage, windshield repairs may be completely free for you—that is, your insurance company will pay for the entire repair—depending on which insurance company you have. Without glass coverage, windshield repair at Werksta costs 750 SEK, and repair of each chip costs 400 SEK per chip.
If you have comprehensive insurance or glass coverage for your car, you’ll only pay the deductible for the windshield replacement. If you’re paying for the windshield repair or replacement yourself, we’ll provide you with a cost estimate during the damage inspection. The price of the new windshield depends on the glass model and other features, such as camera technology and heating capabilities.
